A Day in The Life:

Intern

What is your job about?
As an intern, I support the European research team in their quarterly reports, action customers' requests and help prepare analysis. It's great to see how some of the issues I studied at school can be applied in the real world: it makes it much easier for me to understand complex connections. Moreover I can join different meetings and conferences which really shows me what it feels to work in a team.

What does your typical day look like?
I arrive at 9.00 am at the office and start with checking my emails and action any urgent requests from clients. Then I start working on the reports. My first port of call is to go through our proprietary databases and look for the information I require. Then I catch up with anything new that might have happened in the local markets: I read special newsletters, magazines and online commentaries and summarize any important developments that might have an impact on the market itself. After I've collated all of the information, I send it to my team so they can use it to write analysis and forecast market activities.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Since my internship only lasts three months, I need to make the most of a short time. To make sure I get involved in as many interesting projects as possible, I need to be a fast learner and really responsive with any requests I get!

And the best part?
That's easy - it's our customers. I like helping them grow their businesses, as we're growing ours!

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in working as a Real Estate Analyst?
At first I would say don't be shy in applying for a job and trust your skills! Of course you need a very strong motivation in the real estate market and a desire for new challenges. You must be able to quickly pick up diverse issues and learn where to find the information. If you are good with numbers and figures that definitely helps! And don't forget to enjoy your internship, make as many friends as possible and be proud of yourself.
