A Day in The Life:

Regional Research Manager

What is your job about?
As the Regional Research Manager for Scotland I am responsible for a team of 8 Research Associates who cover the Scottish market. My job is to support my team and enable them to provide the most complete and accurate research for their areas.

What does your typical day look like?
Each day for me begins by pulling together some facts and figures from the previous day's work. By keeping the team up to date on their performance they always know where they are and what they need to do. From there the day could involve meetings with the team to discuss any particular goals or with other member of the management group to share ideas. I also listen to calls and sample data in my area to be able to provide feedback to the team on what we are doing well and where there is room for improvement.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
The biggest challenge – which is also one of the reasons I enjoy the job - is that we continuously change. This is a fast paced environment where we are always adapting our processes to keep up with the market and our clients' needs. Being able to handle these changes and implement new processes can be quite time sensitive.

And the best part?
It's the people I work with! They really are a committed bunch which means I get to hear positive feedback from our clients about the level of information we provide on a regular basis.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in working as a Research Manager?
Try and put yourself in your client' shoes as often as possible, it helps to see our products from their point of view! Not only it will focus you on the things which matter the most but also it puts the team's task in context so they better understand what you are asking from them.
