Washington DC

A Day in The Life:

Research Associate

What do you do as a Research Associate?
My job is all about working with my portfolio of Chicago clients and ensuring their properties are being advertised as accurately and as prevalently as possible. Chicago is America's third largest city and regularly noted as one of the most important for the American economy, thing's move fast in Chicago and clients often turn to CoStar first so we need to know what's happening often before it's happened. It's tough but it's exciting.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Sometimes a property deal will have happened but those involved don't want to release all the information. This is the time when CoStar researcher training comes handy. I was taught how to handle these situations. Winning people over and getting them talk to me is what makes my day.

And the best part?
The most rewarding bit for me is hearing from clients that we've helped them let their space. Their success is my success. They recognise my work and understand that communicating with me on a regular basis benefits them and their business.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in working as a Research Associate?
I'd suggest you brush up on your commercial property knowledge and make sure you are comfortable engaging with people on the phone. Its challenging but you get rewarded. The opportunities for promotions and transfers to new parts of the business are endless.
